Kuthira Malika is the erstwhile palace residence of Raja Swathi Thirunal of Travancore kingdom. It is located on the eastern part of Swami Ananthapadmanabhaswamy temple in Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala.
A part of the palace is converted as a museum as art gallery. The palace gets this unique name because of 122 horses sculpture on the southern roof of the palace. It was built during 1840s with intricate carvings on teakwood, sandalwood, rosewood, marble and granite. Overall the palace has 80 rooms and an elaborate concert hall, where the Swathi Thirunal festival is held every year from January 4 to 13. The concert hall has great acoustics with traditional sound reflectors comprising fifty clay pots hung upside down from the ceiling.
Over 20 rooms of the palace are converted into museum where one can view 14 life-size mannequins of Kathakali , Belgian and Italian mirrors, crystal chandeliers, paintings, a giant Belgian harpoon, armaments, musical instruments etc.,
There is also a musical tree, which gives different sounds on tapping.
It also has a ivory throne and a crystal throne on display.
