Napier Museum is another Kerala government museum, apart from Keralam – just opposite the complex in Thiruvananthapuram city of Kerala.
The Napier Museum, Keralam Museum, Zoo and Padmanabhaswamy temple are nearby and one can visit all the above by walk.
It is an art museum from 19th century established by the late Travancore King- Swathi Thirunal. The whole complex is spread across 55 acres of land. The museum is a landmark of the city and has architecture of different styles, Kerala, Chinese and also Mughal architecture. There is also a separate art gallery – Sree Chitra Art Gallery which contains paintings of Raja Ravi Varma, Nicholas Roerich and other Tanjore and Mughal paintings.
The museum also houses rare collection of archaeological and historic artifacts, bronze idols, ancient ornaments, a temple chariot and ivory carvings.
It also has some excellent exhibits like the skeletal, bird, animal and taxidermy galleries.
