Wayanad Elephant Reserve is more like extension of wild life reserves – Bandipur Tiger Reserve, Mudumalai Tiger Reserve and Nagarhole Tiger Reserve. The highway 766 cuts through the forest between Sultan Battery and Gundulpet. If you do not want to pay high charges, you can take the car in early mornings where there is a chance to spot wild life on the highway.

If you need proper safari experience, you can enter the reserve through the gate – which is at Muthanga a few kilometers after the commercial tax checkpont from Sultan Battery.

There one can pay INR 160/- per adult to enter the forest and take a safar in an open jeep, where the charges are INR 750/- per adult. However, sighting of animals are based on your luck.
