Prachitgad Fort is an ancient fortress nestled in the lush Sahyadri Mountain Range, located just 22 kilometers away from Sangmeshwar in Maharashtra.

This place is packed with history, and the best part? You get to see it all while getting a great workout in!

So, let’s start with some history – this fort played a significant role in the 1818 battle between the Britishers and Marathas. The temple still has five guns and a well, which were used during the war, and if you’re feeling adventurous, there’s even a shrine inside the fort that can only be accessed by a ladder.

The trek here is a challenging one, but the stunning views of Ratnagiri, Mandangad, and Palgad forts make it all worth it. Plus, you get to experience the beautiful Konkan side and trek through thick forests that’ll leave you feeling like you’re on an episode of Man vs. Wild.

Once you reach the fort, you’ll see that it’s spread over an area of 5 acres, and there’s a lot to explore. From the ruined entrance facing north to the large water tank on the left side, you’ll feel like you’re in a history book.

The fortifications and towers are quite impressive, and there are even quarters of houses hidden in the karvi bushes. You’ll also come across a pillar dug in the rock on the right side, and if you’re thirsty, the potable water in the tank will quench your thirst.

After that, you can visit the temple of Bhairi Bhavani, which has three idols – the middle idol is Bhairi Bhavani, and both side idols are of Bhairoba. It’s visited by people from time to time, so don’t be surprised if you see other tourists there.

But wait, there’s more! If you descend the back slope of the castle and climb the hill ahead, you’ll reach the southern end of the fort. Here there’s a pit dug in the west, and it even has two stula-like pedestals carved in it to accommodate the tehalas. Apparently, this kind of pit was dug to protect against Tehla Un, the strange wind on the fort.

So, if you’re looking for a fun and adventurous way to learn about history, Prachitgad Fort is the place to be.
