Located near Rose Garden, initially an asset of Ludhiana, planetarium was neglected from a long time. Municipal Corporation has spent about Rs 55 lakhs on its renovation and bringing new technology (projector etc). It took almost 3-4 months for renovation.

Set up at an expenditure of crores, Nehru planetarium, one of its kinds in the northern region and one of the few in the country, remained in neglect because of paucity of funds.

The planetarium was a prestigious project of the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation and was maintained by the corporation itself.

It was set up in 1987 with an aim to develop a scientific temperament among people, particularly students, by way of displaying various astronomical phenomena and scientific processes.
