Payal Fort is built by Maharaja Amar Singh of Patiala Ryasat in Payal in Ludhiana in Punjab.

This historic monument, built in 1771 by Maharaja Amar Singh of Patiala Ryasat with the help of the Mughals, is a must-see for any history buff.

But here’s the thing – as much as we love a good old-fashioned fort, let’s face it, they’re not always the most well-kept places. That’s why I have to give a shout-out to the Archaeological Survey of India for their hard work in renovating most of the Fort.

However, as with any renovation project, it’s not quite finished yet. You might find some interior parts of the Fort under construction, but don’t let that deter you from visiting. It’s all part of the adventure, right? Plus, you never know what kind of cool behind-the-scenes stuff you might see.

Fun fact – Payal used to be called Sahibgarh, but Maharaja Amar Singh had a change of heart and decided to rebrand. To this day, no one is quite sure why he made the switch.

All in all, Payal Fort is definitely worth a visit for a historian. Just don’t forget to bring your imagination and a love of all things historical!
