Kohoj is located about 104 km from Mumbai off the Mumbai – Ahmedabad Highway near Palghar in Maharashtra.

First things first, it takes around two and a half hours to reach the top from the base village of Vaghote, but trust me, the views are totally worth it! You’ll be surrounded by lush greenery and tranquility that will make you forget about all your worries.

One of the coolest things about Kohoj Fort is the heart-shaped lake that sits cosily near it, forming a mesmerizing reflection of the fort. And the trail takes you by the saltwater lake’s edge, around the fort, and to the top. Talk about a picture-perfect spot, right?

Legend has it that this fort is around 800 years old and belongs to the Bhoj-Dynasty. It was built by the King of Gujarat, but the Portuguese captured it in the 16th century. After hundreds of years of destruction and abandonment, the Great Peshwa captured it in 1737. But, in the end, it remained under British rule.

If you’re a fan of natural wonders, then you’ll love the Man-Shaped pinnacle on the top-most peak of Kohoj Fort. This unique feature is the main attraction of the fort and formed due to continuous wind erosion. Plus, from the top, you’ll get an amazing view of Tandulwadi Fort, Vaitarna backwaters, Mumbai-Ahmedabad Express Highway, and Vaghaote village.

You can hire a taxi, cab, or drive your own private vehicle from Mumbai towards Ghodbandar Road through Western Express Highway. Take a turn towards the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway (NH8), and drive straight until you reach Manor Road. Then, take a right turn from the flyover and go straight until you reach Vaghote, the base village.

Overall, the Kohoj Fort Trek is a medium-grade trek that’s perfect for adventurers who want to experience history and nature all in one trip. So, what are you waiting for? Pack your bags and get ready to explore the beauty of Kohoj Fort!
