Kharda Fort also known as Shivpattan fort is in Kharda in Maharashtra.

As soon as you step foot inside the quadrangle-shaped fort, you’ll be transported back in time. This magnificent fort extends across 3 acres and is filled with architectural wonders and a ton of history to share. But before you go, let us give you a little tour.

The north-facing entrance to the fort on the west side of the road is not easily visible, so keep your eyes peeled! There are four towers at the four sides, two at the door, and seven at the battlefield, each with a protective structure like a battlefield, a fort, a Revani and a trench.

As you walk through the fort, you’ll notice a Persian inscription on one of the doors, and a Marathi inscription on the other. The Marathi inscription reveals that this fort was built by Sardar Sultanrao Nimbalkar in 1743.

The inside of the fort is still intact and has a curved structure that leads to the third entrance of the inner part of the fort. Inside the door, you’ll find a guard who is a goddess, and one of the steps leads into the porch door. Once inside, you’ll be greeted by the magnificent ruins of the fort. Unfortunately, many of the towers have collapsed, but don’t worry, there’s still plenty to explore!

As you walk through the fortifications, you’ll see small eight towers and fortifications that are covered in a fork between the trench and the Revani. It’s like a mini fortress within a fortress! And if you’re lucky, you may even stumble upon remnants of a collapsed castle, and under it, there are streaks of burial under the soil.

But wait, there’s more! On the east side of the fort, you’ll find a Persian inscription referring to the Jama Masjid, with a building in good standing. The back of a broken canyon is seen besides the building. Between the mosque and the embankment one can see the fine structure of the architectural stone, and the well-kept bar.

The well on the fort is more than 100 feet deep in a spherical shape, and it has an arch on the side of the well. It’s like a mini underworld! And the water from the well is currently being used to repair the fort. It’s amazing to think that this well has been the only source of water for the village for centuries.

But the real history lesson comes from the last battle in the Hindavi Swarajya which is significant in history was fought on this fort of Kharda called the Bhuikot Fort also known as Shivpattan. The battle of the valley is famous. The battle took place on March 11, 1795, between the Nizam of Hyderabad and the Marathas. In this battle, the Maratha army defeated the Nizam of Hyderabad. So if you’re a history buff, you won’t want to miss this.
