Jaswant Thada is a beautiful cenotaph located in Jodhpur, in the Indian state of Rajasthan.

It was built by Maharaja Sardar Singh of Jodhpur State in 1899 in memory of his father, Maharaja Jaswant Singh II, and serves as the cremation ground for the royal Rajput family of Marwar.

Built in 1899, this memorial to Maharaja Jaswant Singh II is not just any ordinary monument. It’s a gorgeous piece of architecture and history, made from intricately carved marbles that are sure to take your breath away. The steps leading up to the entrance, surrounded by vibrant red hues, will have you feeling like royalty, and local musicians and folk dancers will entertain you along the way.

But that’s not all, folks! The tiered garden that surrounds Jaswant Thada is a sight to behold, with carved gazebos, a serene lake, and plenty of photo opportunities. The lattice screens and domes of the monument, along with the portraits of Jodhpur’s rulers, will make you feel as though you’ve stepped back in time.

The cenotaph is also known as the “Taj Mahal of Marwar” and, as the name suggests, has several similarities to the iconic monument in Agra. It even has a memorial of a peacock that is said to have flown into a funeral pyre while rituals were going on. How’s that for a unique twist on history?

Visiting Jaswant Thada is an absolute must for anyone in Jodhpur, and it can be easily explored in just 30-45 minutes. Although guides are limited, a pamphlet with all the information you need is available, and you can always do a quick Google search for more history if you’re feeling curious.

So, pack your cameras and get ready for a trip to the Taj Mahal of Marwar! The Jaswant Thada is open from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM and admission for Indian tourists is only INR 20. Get ready to be amazed!

The cenotaph is built out of intricately carved sheets of marble. These sheets are extremely thin and polished so that they emit a warm glow when illuminated by the Sun.

The cenotaph’s grounds feature carved gazebos, a tiered garden, and a small lake. There are three other cenotaphs in the grounds. The cenotaph of Maharaja Jaswant Singh displays portraits of the rulers and Maharajas of Jodhpur.
