Have you ever wanted to take a step back in time and learn about the bravery and sacrifices of the Indian Army? Well, look no further, because the Jaisalmer War Museum, also known as JWM, is here to transport you to the battlefields and pay homage to the fearless soldiers.

Established in the military station, JWM was inaugurated and opened to the public on the 24th of August 2015, on the Golden Jubilee commemoration of the 1965 India-Pakistan war. The museum showcases two Information Display Halls, an Audio-Visual Room, a souvenir shop, and an Honour Wall that lists the names of the gallantry award winners of the Param Vir Chakra and Maha Vir Chakra.

JWM takes pride in its collection of vintage equipment, tanks, guns, and military vehicles, as well as murals of soldiers who lost their lives during the war. The audio-visual room screens a movie about the Battle of Longewala, in which Major Kuldip Singh Chandpuri, a recipient of the Maha Vir Chakra, gives a detailed account of the soldiers who fought.

Located just 2 hours away from Jaisalmer on the Jaisalmer-Jodhpur highway, the museum is a must-visit for anyone looking to pay tribute to the Indian Army. The outdoor area displays fighter jets, Indian Army tanks, and tanks captured from enemies, and the indoor exhibits include information about the genesis of the Indian Army, the Indo-Pak war of 1971, and the 1999 wars, among others.

The Jaisalmer War Museum is a free entry destination, open from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. With two main halls, the Laungewala Hall and the Indian Army Hall, the museum is located near the Jaisalmer Jodhpur Highway in Thaiyat, Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. From the city centre, it is just 13.5 km to the north-east and there are two routes that lead to the museum (via NH 11 and via Ramgarh Bypass – NH 11).

So, pack your bags and get ready for an immersive and educational experience at the Jaisalmer War Museum. Remember, these brave soldiers fought for our country, and the least we can do is honor their sacrifices by visiting this museum and learning about their stories.
