Old Ghoom Monastery is also known as Yiga Choeling. It is near Darjeeling.

The monastery belongs to the Gelukpa or the Yellow Hat sect and is known for its 15 feet (4.6 m)-high statue of the Maitreya Buddha.

It was built during 1850 by the Mongolian astrologer and has the traditional Buddhist architecture.

It is on a mountain and one can enjoy crystal clear view of valley below. You are not allowed to take photos inside the monastery. But you can still capture photo from outside the restricted zone.

There are numerous homestays around the circuit, where one can enjoy a leisure trip.
