Kalimpong formerly known as Dalingkot, is an off beat hill town in West Bengal.

It is located at an average elevation of 1,250 metres (4,101 ft).

Kalimpong is a ridge over the Teesta river and is beautiful with lot of orchids; nurseries, which export Himalayan grown flower bulbs, tubers and rhizomes.

The town also has an ancient Tibetan Buddhist monastery Zang Dhok Palri Phodang which holds a number of rare Tibetan Buddhist scriptures.

For the kids, there is Kalimpong Science Centre.

Overall, it could be great weekend destination for a family.
