Pithoragarh Fort is on the western side bordering Nepal in Uttaranchal.
This historic fort affords spectacular views of the Kali Kumaon and is a great spot for a family outing.
The town got its name from King Pithora, who built his palace and thus the name Pithoragarh. Pithorgarh is a small town, as there aren’t many tourists visiting. But no worries, the town is broadly spread out and you can easily find a room in one of the few hotels, such as Punetha Inn.
The best time to visit Pithoragarh is in the autumn and spring as you can get commanding views of the majestic snow-clad Himalayas. But, if you’re not a fan of cold weather, don’t fret as Pithoragarh has a cool climate with sufficient sunshine round the year.
Aside from the fort, there are many temples to visit around Pithoragarh. The Mosta Manu Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is a must-see. The Ulka Devi Temple is next to Kumaun Mandal vikas Nigam’s Tourist Reception Centre with clean and good boarding & lodging facilities.
And let’s not forget the Kamakshya Temple, built by a family who saw a dream, it’s a beauty of a temple setting atop a hill.
Pithoragarh can also be a base for travelers wanting to see beautiful places like Munsiari. And the best part? You can get there by road, train or air (once the air-strip is ready). So, what are you waiting for? .
