Bhaskargad Fort, or as some call it, Basgad Fort.
It is located just 48 km away from Igatpuri in Nashik district of Maharashtra, this fort is one of the many forts in Trimbak hill range. It’s a fort that will challenge your stamina and test your endurance.
Did you know that Bhaskargadis located near Trimbakeshwar, which is among the 12 “Jyotirlingas” in India? The base village of the fort is Nirgudpada, which is 20 km away from Trimbakeshwar. From here, you can see Harihar fort on one side.
You’ll need to hike for almost 90 minutes to reach the top, and then another 90 to explore the fort. But trust me, it’ll be worth it. The fort is surrounded by mist and a flowing river, making it a mesmerizing location, especially during the monsoon season. To reach the fort, you’ll need to cross this beautiful rivulet!
But the journey doesn’t end here. The fort has a rich history dating back to the Satvaahan dynasty, and it was later under the control of Yadavas, Bahamani Sultanate, Nizamshahi of Ahmednagar, and even Mughals. It was captured multiple times by different rulers, including Shivaji Maharaj and the Koli tribals.
Nowadays, you can see the remnants of the fort walls, a few houses, and water cisterns on the top. But don’t let that discourage you, because the importance of this fort lies in its purpose – to guard the ‘Gonda’ pass, which was a trade route to reach Nashik from the West coast in ancient times.
So, fellow travelers, pack your bags and get ready for a journey filled with adventure and history. And if you have a few extra days, why not plan a visit to Harihar, Tribakeshwar, Anjaneri, and Brahmagiri fort as well? Because let’s face it, who doesn’t love a good fort-hopping adventure?
