Barkur Fort is now in ruins with few scattered structures are unearthed for conservation. It is located near Bramhavara near Udupi in Karnataka. The place was once a capital of Aluva Kingdom. The ancient town name is Barknarayanapura.

Now archaeological excavations is carried out to discover history of this ancient place. Some part of history of this place is also found in Cheraman Perumal legends in Kerala. According to those legends, Barkanaraynapura and has flourishing trade town. The oldest mosque was also built here during early 7th century AD (624 AD).
