Peb Fort / Vikatgad Fortis a fort located 19km from Karjat, in Raigad district, of Maharashtra.

Vikatgad is a favourite destination for one-day trekkers.

So, get your trekking shoes on and pack your bags because we’re headed to the Vikatgad Peb Fort!

The trek path to the fort is not for the faint-hearted. With deep ravines and cliffs, it’s like something straight out of a movie. But don’t worry, the forest department and local villagers are doing their part to restore the fort to its former glory. And who knows, maybe you’ll even stumble upon some hidden treasure along the way.

Speaking of hidden gems, the fort is surrounded by other forts of the Matheran Hill Range such as Malang Gad, Tauli Hill, and Chanderi Fort. Plus, being close to the major cities of Pune and Mumbai, with a well-connected railway system, makes it an ideal spot for weekend getaways.

Once you reach the fort, you’ll find the top is very narrow with a recently built temple at the center. There’s even a lone residential hut or Datta temple on the southern side of the fort. And let’s not forget the water cistern that’s available round the year for drinking purposes.

While it may only take an hour to visit all the places on the fort, don’t forget to explore the nearby picturesque spots in the Raigad district. From Louisa Point to One Tree Hill Point, there’s no shortage of scenic views and amazing treks to be had.

Sure, the trek to the fort is about 2 and 1/2 hours one way, but trust us when we say it’s worth it. Plus, with the fresh oxygen supply, it’ll feel like you’ve added years to your life. And if you need to take a break, no problem – just splash around in the cool streams dripping from the hills.

But before you go, remember to pack some dry snacks because the food options on top are limited. And really, what’s better than enjoying some good food while taking in the beauty of nature?

All in all, a trip to Vikatgad Peb Fort is a must for anyone seeking a mental recharge. Endurance is tested, but with nature surrounding you, it’s a journey you won’t regret. So, get your trekking gear ready, and let’s explore the fort!
