Mandangad Fort is in Ratnagiri in Maharashtra.

It is one of the oldest forts in Ratnagiri, built during the reign of Panhala’s King Bhoj in the 12th century. Yes, you read that right, it’s pretty ancient! Although the fort has collapsed, you can still witness the ruins of the magnificent structure.

If you’re wondering how to reach there, fret not! The fort is just 4-5kms away from the Mandangad bus stand, and there is a good concrete road that allows you to travel by your vehicle to the top of the fort. But, beware of the special lock shaped rocks that surround the two beautiful ponds on the fort. You wouldn’t want your vehicle keys to get lost in the rocks, would you?

Now, here comes the interesting part. The grave found on the fort is believed to be of King Shivaji’s loyal Naval Commander, Daulat Khan.

Apart from the natural beauty surrounding the fort, there are quite a few things to see here, such as the recently renovated Ganesh Temple, the Thorla Talav Lake, Bastions on the fort, Tanks on the fort, and a 400-year-old cannon that is a major attraction. So, history buffs, make sure to add this to your bucket list.

If you’re planning to visit Mandangad Fort, the best time to do so is during the winter season. Winters are pleasant in the Konkan area of Maharashtra, and you can enjoy the stunning scenic view from the top of the fort without breaking a sweat. But, if you’re brave enough to visit during the rainy season, be ready to get soaked to the bone, and don’t forget to pack your rain gear.

Lastly, for all the camping enthusiasts out there, we would not recommend camping here as it’s a small fort. But, if you still want to camp, make sure to carry your own food and enough water. Also, as there is no natural shelter on the fort, you might want to take some tents along with you. Who knows, you might just end up sharing a tent with a 400-year-old cannon!
