Gowalkot is a small fort located on the southern bank of Vashishti River, about 10.0 km from Chiplun in Maharashtra.

Are you ready for a short trek that promises heart-stopping views and a dose of history? Look no further than Gowalkot Fort in Maharashtra’s Ratnagiri district!

The fort is located on a small island located about 10 km from Chiplun and surrounded by the beautiful Vashishti River. To reach the fort, you’ll need to hop on a small boat and brace yourself for a mini-adventure.

Once you’re on the island, it’s time to put on your explorer hat and channel your inner Indiana Jones. Gowalkot Fort dates back to 1690 and was once guarded by the likes of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and his son Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. It’s seen its fair share of battles and conquests, but now lies in ruins – a perfect spot for some Instagram-worthy snaps.

Before you start your ascent to the top, make a pit-stop at the temple dedicated to Goddess Karanjeshwari. Who knows, she might just bless you with the strength to conquer the fort! Once you’ve paid your respects, it’s time to climb up the series of steps that lead to the fort. The main entrance might be in a state of disrepair, but the two bastions on either side of it are still standing strong.

As you make your way up, you’ll come across remnants of old buildings, a water pond, and even a small temple dedicated to Godess Redjai. But the real star of the show is the view from the top – the striking Vashishti River and picturesque valley below are sure to take your breath away. Just make sure you don’t accidentally drop your phone while trying to take a selfie.

One word of advice – make sure you carry your own food and water, as there aren’t any shops or restaurants on the island. But don’t worry, there are plenty of good options in Chiplun if you want to grab a bite before or after your trek.

So what are you waiting for? Pack your bags, grab your friends, and head to Gowalkot Fort for a day of fun, history, and stunning views.
