Devanahalli Fort is located 35 kilometers (22 mi) north of Bangalore city near the new international airport in Karnataka. It was built by the Chieftain Malla Byre Gowda of Avathi, a Vijayanagara empire vassal during the year 1501. Later, it was rebuilt by Hyder Ali with some new structures.
An Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) board outside the fort and at Tipu Sultan’s birthplace declares them to be protected monuments. One can find an entire village inside the fort ramparts.
