Bylakuppe Monastery is a Buddhist monastery near Mysore in Karnataka. The Bylakuppe village is the second largest Tibetan settlement in the world outside Tibet after Dharmashala.
The monastery was established by 11th throneholder of the Palyul lineage Drubwang Padma Norbu Rinpoche.
The monastery has Padmasambhava Buddhist Vihara which was built according to Tibetian traditions. It was embellished with many exquisite paintings and sculptures. The statue of Lord Buddha is 60ft. in height (from the base), whereas the height of the other two statues of Guru Padmasambhava and Buddha Amitayus is 58 ft. They are made out of copper gilded with gold. There was landscape surrounding the temple was created not only as an offering to the Three Jewels, but also to inspire and bring peace to the minds of both visitors and residents alike.
A visit into the monastery, one will feel of a different world. There are buddhist monks, the chants of prayer, the style of architecture of the monastery is everything of Tibetian style.
There are shops around which sells curios, souvenirs and woollen clothes.
