Belgaum Fort is an old fort built during early 13th century by Ratta Dynasty a lineage of Rashtrakutas. It has changed many hands – Vijaya Nagara Kings, Adil Shahis, Muhals, local chieftians and finally British in 1818.
The fort has an oval structure and a deep wide moat. It has a entrance gate which is considered as one of the beautiful gates ever designed. The fort complex has mosques and a beautifully carved temple made of red and granite stone. Overall, it is a good picnic spot.
