If you’re in Amritsar, then you simply cannot miss visiting the Gurudwara Shri Tarn Taran Sahib.

Located just 22 kms away in the village of Tarn Taran Sahib, this holy site is a boat that’ll take you across the ocean of existence! Yes, that’s what Tarn Taran means, and it’s not just a fancy name. It’s said that the water of the Sarovar has the power to cure leprosy! So, if you’re tired of your skin care routine, then a dip in the Sarovar might be just what the doctor ordered.

The gurudwara itself is a masterpiece of Mughal architecture. The lotus dome may have suffered some damage during an earthquake in 1905, but that hasn’t diminished its beauty one bit. The stucco work, glass pieces, and intricate designs on the ceiling and inner walls will leave you in awe. And if that’s not enough bling for you, then check out the upper section covered in glittering gold sheets. It’s like a Kardashian’s dream come true!

The daily kirtan recitals are a treat for the ears, but make sure to grab a good spot early on. They start in the morning and go on until late evening, so you might want to pack some snacks. And if you’re lucky enough to visit on Amavas day, then you’ll witness the gathering of pilgrims from all over India. It’s like the Kumbh Mela, but with less people and more water.

Getting to the Gurudwara Sri Tarn Taran Sahib is easy. Just hire a local taxi from Amritsar city and you’ll be there in no time. Or if you’re feeling adventurous, then take the train to Tarn Taran station, which is just a km away. The bus stop is a bit further away at 2 km, but you can always stretch those legs after a long journey.

So, if you’re looking for a unique travel experience, then head on over to Tarn Taran and dive into the Sarovar.
