Are you looking for a spiritual getaway with a touch of adventure? Look no further than the city of temples, Shoghi! This picturesque town is home to the ancient Tara Parvat, where you can find the 250-year-old temple of Maa Tara.

Legend has it that Maa Tara was brought all the way from West Bengal by the Sen Dynasty, and has been worshiped by devotees ever since. The temple is perched atop a hill, providing stunning views of the surrounding valleys and snow-capped Himalayan range. And if you’re lucky enough to be in town during Sharad Navratri, you can witness a special pooja held on the Ashtami.

But the story of this temple doesn’t end there. Raja Bhupendra Sen, the king of the area, had a divine encounter with Maa Tara herself while hunting in the dense forests of Taradevi. She expressed her desire to settle in the area so that her devotees could easily visit her. The king then donated his land and sponsored the construction of the temple. And inside the temple, you’ll find a wooden idol of the goddess installed in accordance with Vaishnav traditions.

But the temple’s history doesn’t stop there either. Another ruler of the Sen Dynasty, Raja Balbir Sen, had a dream in which Maa Tara expressed her desire to be installed on the hilltop of Tarav Parvat. And so, the Ashtadhatu deity was enshrined in 1825, and the Sen dynasty has been carrying on the tradition of worshipping their family deity on Ashtami during Shardiya Navratras ever since.

The temple is situated near Shogi village on the Shimla-Kalka National Highway, about 17 km from Shimla Railway Station. And the lush green environs surrounding the temple provide a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere that’s perfect for relaxation and reflection.

And if you’re feeling adventurous, there’s a dense forest on one side of the temple, and roads on the other. Plus, there’s a Shiva stepwell in the adjoining forest. So why not take a stroll through the woods and see what other surprises await you?

So whether you’re seeking spiritual fulfillment or just want to soak up some stunning views and ancient history, the Tara Devi Temple in Shoghi is a must-visit destination. And who knows, Maa Tara herself might just grant you your heart’s desire!
