Suchindram Theroor Birds Sanctuary is a wetlands ecosystem which attracts migratory birds during season. Now that area has been declared as a birds reserve and a protected area. This is the southern most point for central Asian birds. The wetlands are formed between Pazhayar and Parakkai lake.
The lake also has large variety of aquatic vegetation including lily, lotus, pistia and other water plants.
Some of the major attractions are spot billed pelican, egrets, darters, jacanas etc.,
