Sahyadri Tiger Reserve located in the Sahyadri of the Western Ghats of Maharashtra?

The place is a part of the ecoregions of North Western Ghats moist deciduous forests and North Western Ghats montane rain forests. And is spread over Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, and Ratnagiri.

Now, if you’re coming from Pune, take the Nagar road and drive up and left towards the high hills of the eastern slopes of the western ghats Sahyadris.

Along the way, you’ll see great water bodies, dams, red earth farms with greenhouses, and flower farms. And don’t forget to check out the Ozhar Ganapati and Narayan Gaon Chateau Indage vineyards on your way up or down.

Once you’re in the reserve, you’ll be surrounded by green flora and fauna. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even trek through the jungles. But if you’re not up for it, no worries, just stay put and soak in the beauty of your surroundings.

Now let’s get to the real reason why you’re here, the animals! The Tiger Reserve is home to some seriously endangered species like the Tiger, Wild dog, and Leopard. And if that’s not enough to get your heart racing, there are also Gaur, Sambar, Four Horned Antelope, Mouse Deer, Giant Squirrel, Vultures, Crocodiles, Hornbills, and many other endemic birds. And if you’re lucky, you might even spot the Indian long billed Vulture on the crest line.

But wait, there’s more! There are 58 varieties of snakes (so watch your step!), the Blue finned Mahasheer fish in the Koyana waters, and even endangered Butterflies like the Atlas Moth and Moon Moth. And let’s not forget about the breeding grounds of the Indian River Tern in Chandoli National Park and Koyana Sanctuary area.

The habitat has a good potential to support tigers and there are as many as 5 to 7 tigers present in the Shirshinge, Pali, Mhalunge, Navaja, Takavli, Ghatmatha, Male,Rundiv, Siddheshvar, and Dhakale areas. So keep your eyes watchful!

In conclusion, the Sahyadri Tiger Reserve is a must-visit for any nature lover or adventure seeker.
