Mayani Bird Sanctuary is a bird sanctuary located in Mayani, in Maharashtra, India.

If you are bird lover and looking for a peaceful escape from the hustle-bustle of the city, this place will surely make you chirp with joy.

One would be alittle disappointed to see the place in a state of neglect, but we don’t let that dampen our spirits.

As you walked around the huge pond surrounded by trees, one can saw several small birds – too many to count!

Some of the resident birds include a Common Kingfisher, Stork, Robin, Dove, Pond Heron, Pied Bushat, Fan-tailed Warbler, Red-vented Bulbul, Bee Eater, Black-headed Ibis, and a few others.

One thing you could noticed is that the birds were quite skittish around humans, probably because there aren’t many people around. But if you’re willing to go the extra mile (or rather, the extra pond), you can spot even more birds. Just make sure to wear some camouflage gear, so you don’t scare them away.

Mayani Bird Sanctuary is one of the most prominent bird sanctuaries in Mumbai, India, and is home to over 400 species of birds. Some of the most famous ones are the Northern Shoveler, Stork, Kingfisher, Brahmani Duck, Black Ibis, and of course, the flamingos. Yes, you read that right, flamingos! These beautiful creatures migrate to Mayani Lake from the Siberian region of North Asia, and trust us, they’re a sight to cheer!.

Apart from the birds, the sanctuary also boasts of a variety of flora and fauna. One can see some beautiful cacti and medicinal plants, and if you’re an ecologist, you’re in for a treat. The sanctuary’s humid ecosystem makes it a rich place for animals and plants alike.

If you’re planning to visit the Mayani Bird Sanctuary, the entry fee is only Rs. 15 per person. And if you’re wondering how to get there, you can reach Satara by train and take a bus to the sanctuary. It’s well connected by road with cities like Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, and Ahmedabad, so getting there won’t be a hassle.

All in all, Mayani Bird Sanctuary is a paradise for bird lovers, ecologists, and anyone who wants to take a break from the city’s chaos. So pack your bags, grab your binoculars, and get ready to spread your wings!
