Are you ready to conquer one of the highest hills of Mizoram? Yes, we’re talking about the magnificent Reiek Tlang, standing tall at 1465 meters! It’s located just 29 km away from Aizawl, and trust us, it’s totally worth the trip.

The trek to the top is not for the faint-hearted, but it’s an excellent opportunity to stretch those legs and take in some fresh air. And if you’re lucky, you might even spot a Peregrine Falcon, nesting in the rocky cliffs.

The view from the peak is nothing short of breathtaking, offering a panoramic view of Aizawl and the surrounding valley. The Reiek Hills are also home to a charming little village inhabited by the Mizos, making it a perfect destination to learn about the local culture and village hierarchy. Plus, birdwatchers will be in paradise, with a variety of native birds to spot on the climb up.

We recommend staying at the tourist lodge located at the base of the hill, providing comfortable and affordable accommodation. Alternatively, you can also stay in Aizawl, but trust us, waking up to the fresh mountain air is an experience in itself. Just remember to pack light food if you plan to stay longer as there are no food or drink options once you pass the Reiek village.

After Reiek village. trek is along a wide unpaved road that ends halfway up the peak, after which it becomes steep and narrow. It will take around one and a half hours to reach the peak at an average pace, but the view was totally worth it. The lush green, untouched Lusai mountain range in the west, south, and north, and Aizawl town in the east were all visible from the top.

So, if you’re looking for a fun and adventurous day trip from Aizawl, Reiek Tlang is the perfect place to visit.
