Established in 1984, the zoo is managed by the Bharat Ratna Pandit Govind Vallabh Pant High Altitude Zoo Management Society, and is sustained by the entry fees from visitors like you.
Here, you’ll be greeted by a variety of rare and endangered species, including the Himalayan Bear, Himalayan Civet, Hill Patridge, Tibetan Wolf, Sambar, Barking Deer, and the majestic Royal Bengal Tiger. During the winter months, the bird enclosures are even covered with curtains to keep our feathered friends cozy!
But this zoo isn’t just about seeing wildlife, it’s also about education and awareness. The zoo strives to spread the message of nature conservation, especially wildlife conservation, to visitors of all ages. So while you’re admiring the collection of living animals on display, take a moment to learn about their biology and behavior, and how you can help protect them.
Visiting the Nainital Zoo is an easy and accessible adventure. Located just 2 km from Tallital, it’s connected by a motorable road, although many tourists opt for a scenic walk up the hill. And, with hours from 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM, you’ll have plenty of time to explore and discover.
