Namakkal Fort is one of the important fort and was built by Thirumalai Nayaar in the 17th century. The fort is still strong and is maintained by Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). The fort complex houses a temple, a mosque, a lake all of them are major attractions. The rock cut temple also has inscriptions which will be of interest to historians.
The climb to the fort above is tricky . The steps are small and sloppy steps with guard rail to help you to climb. The fort is the centre of the Namakkal town and it is also near the famous Lord Hanuman temple.
