Kanatal – is a picturesque hill station nestled in the stunning Garhwal region of Uttarakhand.

Tourist can get ready to feast their eyes on breathtaking views of snow-capped Himalayan peaks and lush green forests, while experiencing peace and serenity away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Legend has it that Kanatal was named after a lake that once existed here, but it’s now dried up – much like my sense of humor on a Monday morning. But fear not, as this quaint hamlet has plenty of charm to offer.

With majestic hills, fruit trees, apple orchards, and a plethora of wildflowers, Kanatal is a haven for nature lovers.

But that’s not all, adventure enthusiasts can indulge in activities such as trekking, camping, rock climbing, and mountain biking. And for the wildlife and birdlife enthusiasts, you’re in for a treat as Kanatal is home to a rich variety of both.

Accommodation options are limited here, but fear not, camping in the Himalayan hills is an exquisite experience that’s a must-try. Camp Carnival, Little Jaguar, and Kanatal Orchids are the most famous camping accommodations in Kanatal. If you want to experience authentic Pahadi hospitality, then staying in a Pahadi house is a unique option.

Don’t worry about going hungry, in-house restaurants serve Indian, Chinese, and Continental cuisines, ensuring your taste buds are always satisfied. A word of caution though, outside of hotel or guest house restaurants, options are sparse.

Kanatal is a small hamlet that can easily be covered in a single day. Start with an early morning walk to soak in the wilderness and fresh air. A trip to Kodia Jungle is a must-do to experience the rich flora and fauna. Then, head on to Chamba for lunch, followed by a visit to the magnificent dam in New Tehri. Finally, explore the mystical territory of Dhanaulti before returning to your hotel for a warm dinner and ending your trip on a note of tranquility.

Getting here is easy with Jolly Grant Airport being the nearest airbase, connected to major cities like Delhi via daily flights. Taxi services are available outside the airport for a comfortable three-hour ride to your destination.

If you prefer hitting the road, fear not as Kanatal is well-connected via well-maintained roads to major cities of Uttarakhand and neighboring states. State-owned buses or private buses are both available with frequent services. So, pack your bags and get ready for a memorable trip filled with peace, adventure, and breathtaking views.
