Jhansi Fort is a fortress situated on a large hilltop called Bangira, in Uttar Pradesh.
The Jhansi fort will take you back to 17th century?
This architectural gem is a must-see for any history buff, and it’s also a great spot for a scenic view of the city.
Accessing the fort is a breeze – it’s easily accessible by car or tuk-tuk and the rest of the fort can be explored on foot. The fort is open from sunrise to sunset and is well-maintained, with plenty of signs and a map at the entrance to guide you.
One of the main highlights of the fort is the Kadak Bijli Cannon, an impressive piece of weaponry that you won’t want to miss. The Ganapati Mandir and Bhavani Cannon are also worth checking out.
And, for a bit of drama, don’t miss the spot from where Rani Laxmi Bai famously jumped from the ramparts of the fort on horseback, evading capture from British forces. All in all, the fort can be explored in about 3 hours, but don’t rush – take your time to take in the magnificent view of the city from the ramparts.
But the Jhansi Fort isn’t just a historical site – it also plays host to the Jhansi Mahotsav, a week-long festival organized by the UP Tourism Government usually in February or March. The festival features dance recitals, singing, and drama, making it a great time to visit.
The fort has been cleaned up recently, and the laser show has restarted. If you’re visiting Jhansi for the first time, it’s a must-see. And if you’re short on time, don’t worry, you can explore it in just 60-90 minutes. But make sure you stick around for the sunset – it’s a sight not miss it from top of fort. And don’t forget to visit the war memorial paying tribute to the martyrs and the Rani Lakshmibai Park, built in memory of her role in the freedom struggle.
