Government Museum of Bangalore is one of the oldest museums in the country. The red brick building is a part of Bangalore heritage and it houses a remarkable treasure trove of archaeological items such as stone carvings, pottery, paintings, coins and inscriptions. It houses over 600 paintings under Venkatappa Art Gallery, sculptures from Hoysala, Nolamba and Gandhara periods, artifacts excavated at Chandravalli, Mohenjodaro, Hampi and Halebeedu.
