Elephant Waterfalls is only 12 km away from the capital city of Mizoram-Aizawal.

If you are you ready for a wild ride through the jungle to find the one and only Elephant Falls? then you will know, that, we’re not talking about a herd of majestic elephants taking a dip, but a waterfall named after a rock that used to resemble an elephant.

Sadly, that rock was washed away in an earthquake back in 1897, but the falls are still standing tall and mighty.

Located next to the charming city of Shillong, these falls are a tourist’s paradise with three different levels to explore.

The Brits may have named it after the rock, but the locals call it ‘Ka Kshaid Lai Pateng Khohsiew’ or ‘The Three Step Waterfalls’ and let me tell you, these falls are quite the staircase.

The first level is a broad waterfall tucked away in the dense jungle, the second level is a mere trickle in the winter, and the third level is the grand finale with a tall and powerful waterfall flowing like a sheet of milk on dark rocks. Trust us, the third level will leave you in awe.

But the fun doesn’t stop there, Elephant Falls is also a great pitstop before embarking on further journeys into the beautiful state of Meghalaya. And the best part? It’s only 12 km away from the capital city. So pack your cameras and hiking boots, and let’s go find that elephant-shaped rock (or what’s left of it).”
