Cranganore Fort also known as Kodungallur fort was built by Portuguese in the 16th century. It was also known as Kottapuram Fort.
It was mostly ruins now. However, Archaeological Survey of India has erected a memorial pillar inside the Fort and decided to preserve it as a public property.
There is also a church and cemetry nearby. Nothing much to see and to learn about Dutch and Portuguese history. For the adventurous, boating is also available from 9.00 AM to 6.00 PM. One can enjoy the view the backdrop of fort ruins from Periyar river.
