Bhitarkanika National Park is a large national park in northeast Kendrapara district in Odisha.
It is Ramsar site – means a protected site for bio diversity. The park which was surrounded by Chilka Lake spread over 672 sq.kms. Many rivers Brahmani, Baitarini and Dhamra flows through this park bringing a unique ecosystem of lakes, mangroves and evergreen forests.
The national park is home to Saltwater crocodile (Crocodylus porosus), Indian python, king cobra, black ibis, darters and many other species of flora and fauna.
It is a haven for bird watchers – as more than 200 vareities of migratory /resident birds are spotted here.
To spot wildlife and birds, one has to take a boat ride with a large boat of 25 to 30 people. The boat rides takes around an hour to cover the lake.
