Vembanad Lake is one of the largest lake in Kerala. It has a unique wetland system with several islands around it and it spreads across over 200 sq.kilometers and is situated at sea level. It is fed by 10 rivers originating from western ghats – Manimala, Achankovil, Muttapuzha, Pamba, Periyar and other river streams. The lake is home to over 100 native birds, besides migratory birds during season –

Kumarakom is a popular tourist destination is on this lake. On northern part of Kumarakom lake is the bird sanctuary.
