Undavalli Caves are in Guntur district(though very near Vijayawada of Andhra Pradesh. The rock cut caves are on a small hill and have 3 levels.

It is believed that these caves were cut during 6th century period according to ASI (Archaeological Survey of India).

Although a few elements inside the caves, such as the pillared halls, show Buddhist or Jain influences, the sculptures are dedicated to the Hindu trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwara.

The principal deity in the caves is Anantasayana Vishnu (Vishnu in a reclining position).

Inscriptions inside the cave complex also date to the time of the Reddys of Kondavidu and Sri Krishna-devaraya from the 12th to 14th centuries CE,indicating a prolonged patronage of most caves is incomplete, with only two cells.

The nearest airport is Vijayawada which is 40 KM away.

Vijayawada Railway Station is the nearest railway station.

There are several state-run buses to reach Vijayawada and Guntur. You can take local transport or private buses to reach Undavalli Caves from Vijayawada or Guntur.

Best time to visit is from January to December.
