Have you ever heard of a place so exquisite that it stays covered in snow all year long?

Well, we have! It’s the Thajiwas Glacier, located at a distance of 3 km from Sonamarg in Kashmir, and it’s a beauty to cheer!

The journey to the glacier is not just a trek, it’s a trek filled with surprises! On the way, you’ll witness a silver shining frozen lake and lush greenery all around. And if that’s not enough to make you go ‘wow’, you’ll also come across the Gujjar tribes who set up their camps here and earn their livelihood.

You’ll also see numerous waterfalls and alpine meadows scattered all over the Thajiwas Glacier. In short, it’s a natural beauty that will leave you spellbound!

Now, for the fun part. You can either trek all the way to the glacier or hire a pony. And let us warn you, during peak season, ponywallahs can charge you a fortune! So, make sure to bargain hard or be ready to part ways with your wallet.

Oh, and don’t forget to wear proper footwear as the surface of the glacier can be slippery. Trust us, you don’t want to end up slipping and sliding down the glacier like a penguin on ice. Also, a tour guide is not entirely necessary, but if you’re like us and have no sense of direction, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

One can take the trekking route, which was about 5 km long, and it can take around 2.5 hours to reach the Glacier. And let us tell you, it was worth every minute! The weather was quite supportive, and we didn’t have to deal with the snow. But if you’re feeling brave and want the full glacier experience, go during the peak winter season.

During peak season, there are hot snacks like Maggi available and enjoy it with a 360 degree view of mountains.
