Tarapur Fort is in Palghar district of Maharashtra.
The nearest railway station in Boisar, and then make your way 20 km off National Highway NH-8.
Apparently, the history we know is that Tarapur Fort was conquered from the Naiks by Bhim, the legendary ruler of Mahim in Bombay island way back in the thirteenth century. But things got a little spicy in the 16th century when the Portuguese came in and burned down the town. Yikes!
But wait, there’s more. In the 17th century, the Mughals tried to attack Tarapur not once, but twice. And if that wasn’t enough, the Marathas came in the 18th century and laid four mines, blowing up a bastion and a curtain. Ouch!
But don’t worry, things have calmed down since then. Tarapur Fort, is now a peaceful place where you can stroll through the ruins and gardens of the old fort, and marvel at its storied past. And who knows, maybe you’ll find a secret treasure hidden among the remains (just kidding, don’t get your hopes up too high).
In any case, Tarapur Fort, is a fascinating place with a rich history that’s definitely worth a visit.
