Sukhna Lake is nestled at the foot of Shivalik Hills. This man-made beauty was created in 1958 by damming the seasonal Sukhna Choe, which flows down the hills, making it the only lake of its kind in the city.

With its pristine blue waters, the lake serves as a perfect location for morning joggers and walkers to sweat out their calories and breathe in the fresh air. In fact, the architect of Chandigarh, Le Corbusier, claimed that the lake would be the center of wellness pursuits for residents. And we can’t disagree with him on that!

But wait, there’s more! If you’re a sports enthusiast, then you’re in for a treat. The lake hosts the Asian Rowing Championships and has one of the longest rowing channels in the country. And if that’s not enough, there’s a trampoline jump available for kids to bounce their way to fun and frolic.

If you’re someone who loves to relax and unwind, then a lazy boat tour on the lake is a must-do. And don’t worry about the cost; you can hire a boat for as little as INR 50! And while you’re at it, keep an eye out for the migratory birds such as Siberian ducks and cranes that call this lake their home.

But that’s not all; there’s so much to explore around the lake. You can visit the famous Rose Garden and play golf or simply chill at the dedicated CITCO cafeteria, which offers both indoor and outdoor seating. And if you’re feeling adventurous, you can take a Shikara ride similar to the ones in Kashmir, right here at Sukhna Lake!

Oh, and did I mention the souvenir shops? You can buy little curios to take back home as a reminder of your visit. And if you’re up for it, hop on the camel outside the lake for a camel ride! Yes, you heard it right, a camel ride by the lake!

So what are you waiting for? Pack your bags and head to Sukhna Lake. And don’t worry about the transportation; the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking has an excellent bus service. And if you’re close to the lake, just hop on an auto-rickshaw. And if you’re feeling fancy, book a taxi and get ready for a memorable trip.
