Are you ready for an underground adventure?

Because we’ve got just the place for you! Introducing the Siju Cave, also known as Bat Cave – the third-longest cave network in India!

Located in Meghalaya, this limestone cave is a natural wonder with stalagmites and stalactites formations that will leave you awestruck.

But don’t expect to explore all 4 kilometers of it, as most of it is inaccessible due to the water-filled passages. And yes, you’ll come across some bats – locally known as dobakkol – who have made this cave their home. Princess Di’s Chamber is another highlight of the cave, where limestone formations have created a natural work of art.

Now, let’s talk about the journey to get here. First things first, avoid the monsoon season as the water level increases, and it’s not safe to visit. The best time to visit is from October to April, and make sure to bring an extra pair of clothes as you’ll get wet due to the deep water level.

But wait, there’s more! It’s highly recommended to visit with a local guide as there are chances of getting lost in the darkness. And if you’re planning to stay overnight, there’s a Forest Guest House nearby, which will cost you around INR 700 per night. You can add meals to your stay for an additional INR 500. And don’t forget to hire an SUV to reach the cave entrance as the roads are pretty rough.

The journey to the cave entrance is an adventure in itself. You’ll get to hike through the jungle and cross mountain streams. And once you reach the entrance, it’s like stepping into a whole new world. You’ll watch the light from outside disappear and be surrounded by astounding rock formations hidden in dense vegetation. It’s like entering the belly of the earth!

So what are you waiting for? Put on your explorer’s hat, pack some extra clothes, and let’s go on an underground adventure at Siju Cave!
