Shirgaon Fort, is located just 6.5 km from Palghar in Maharashtra. This fort is a great place to visit, and it’s in excellent condition, with solid masonry walls, parapets, and bastions that are worth seeing.

The fort was built during the Yadava of Devgiri’s reign in 1225 A.D. and has been through quite a few rulers since then. The Gujarati Musalman rulers, Bahamani Dynasty, and Ahmednagar Sultanate all had control of the fort at one time or another. But, the fort’s most famous occupant was none other than the great Maratha King, Chhatrapati Shivaji, who used it as a lookout post to watch for enemies coming through the Arabian Sea.

Now, the fort is a little worse for wear, with most of the structures in ruins. But, don’t let that deter you from visiting. The fort’s outer walls and fortifications are still in great shape and offer an idea of how the fort was. You can walk along the narrow stairs that lead to the upper level of the walls, just like the soldiers who once guarded the fort.

One of the coolest things to see at the Shirgaon Fort is the palm tree with six to seven branches, which is a rare sight. And, if you’re lucky, you might discover one of the many hidden caves in the walls of the fort.

It’s a shame that there’s not much to see from an architecture point of view, but the fort’s picturesque environs and cleanliness make it a favorite among historians and regular tourists alike. Plus, the road to the fort from Palghar is a scenic route that adds to the experience.

Overall, the Shirgaon Fort is a small fort, and there’s no trek or climbing involved, making it a great option for everyone. And, since it’s not a major tourist attraction, you won’t have to deal with crowds of people. So, if you’re looking to lose yourself in an ancient place while still being in the modern world, the Shirgaon Fort is the perfect place to do it. Just make sure to visit in broad daylight to truly appreciate its beauty.
