Are you an art lover? Or maybe just someone who appreciates a good walk and stunning views? Either way, the Nicholas Roerich Museum in Naggar in Himachal Pradesh is a must-visit for you.
Nicholas Roerich was not just any ordinary artist – some people in Russia even considered him a spiritual leader! He traveled the world and finally settled in the quaint town of Naggar in the early 1900s. His estate houses a great collection of his art, as well as his car and the house where he stayed. It’s like stepping into the world of a creative genius!
Located in a slightly secluded area, the estate boasts a beautiful forest area with a large number of deodar trees, and stunning views of the peaks around. Even if art isn’t your thing, it’s worth the walk to the gallery just to see the views.
The International Roerich Art Gallery is located in Kullu and preserves the different works and paintings of the Russian Master Painter, N.K. Roerich. Most of the paintings show the beauty of ice-covered valleys and peaks during the early hours of evening. It’s like taking a stroll through the artist’s mind and experiencing his love for nature and the Himalayas.
The gallery was founded in 1962 by Svyetoslav Roerich, son of Nicholas Roerich. The building that now houses the gallery once served as the residence of Nicholas Roerich, so you’re not just seeing art, you’re stepping into a piece of history. The artist’s private rooms have been preserved on the upper floor of the museum, and there are even photos of Nicholas with famous personalities like Jawaharlal Nehru on display.
The Roerich Heritage Museum is run by a trust formed by the Himachal Pradesh Government and Russian Government, so you know it’s in good hands. The museum is open from 9 am to 5 pm every day except Monday.
So what are you waiting for? Come and experience the world of Nicholas Roerich and appreciate the beauty of the Himalayas through his art. Trust us, it’s worth it.
