Pichavaram is an area of around 3000 acres full of mangroves. It is the second largest mangroves in the world. These are rare kind of ecosystem, where plants grow in the inter-tidal zone. To explore the mangroves, one can hire a tourist boat here.
From the boatride, one can enjoy these watery trees at close with the boatman acting as your guide. He will reel out stories, escapades, cinema shootings and also amazingly some of the botanical names of the birds, flora and fauna. If you are lucky, you may see some water snakes or fox cubs. November to February is the best time, where one can spot migratory birds in morning and evening.
