Mahabalipuram is a sea shore monument built during 7th cenutury AD and is now a part of UNESCO world heritage monuments.
It is roughly a 45 minutes drive from City on the scenic east coast road. There a group of monuments from a rock-cut sea shore temple, cave temples, a light house of 7th century, beautiful sculptures scattered around over a place of 3 square kilometers.
These monuments are a trekkers and rock climbers’ paradise. Wear comfortable shoes and climb over small rocks, to catch a view of bay of Bengal or to find a new angle for your photos. There are enough small hillocks, burrows, boulders to explore for fun.
Overall, one will need atleast a day to explore all of Mahabalipuram in full. However, most will cover the important pandava rathas, mahishasuramardini temple, arujuna’s penance, sea shore temple, butter ball in half a day.
The place is famous as an international tourist destination and is maintained well. There are sea side resorts, camping activities, shoppers area for every budget.
