Patna Bird Sanctuary is in Etah district in Uttar Pradesh.

This place is a hidden gem for bird lovers and this charming little sanctuary is home to over 200,000 feathered friends from over 300 different bird species. The sanctuary was founded in 1991 and covers an area of 1.09 km2, making it the smallest bird sanctuary in Uttar Pradesh.

As you approach the sanctuary, you’ll find yourself in the quaint town of Jalesar, also known as Ghungroo Nagari or Bell City. It takes around 1.5 hours to reach the sanctuary from Agra by road, and you can also reach it via Aligarh (68 km) or Hathras (29 km).

Once you arrive at Patna Bird Sanctuary, you’ll be greeted by a peaceful lake, surrounded by lush green vegetation, which serves as a wintering ground for migratory birds.

During the winter months, the lake is filled with birds such as pied mynas, herons, cormorants, ducks, and geese. The water quality of the lake supports a wide range of avifauna, and the entire lake area is covered by profuse growth of macrophytic vegetation during summers.

It’s best to visit Patna Bird Sanctuary between November and March, as most of the birds tend to leave in March.

During your visit, you’ll have the chance to observe more than 106 species of migratory and resident birds that have their resting habitats at the lake. Some of the important aquatic birds you’ll see include Lesser Whistling-Duck, Graylag Goose, Comb Duck, Ruddy Shelduck, Gadwall, Eurasian Wigeon, Indian Spot-billed Duck, Northern Shoveler, and Northern Pintail.

In conclusion, if you’re looking for a peaceful and serene bird-watching experience, head to Patna Bird Sanctuary and soak in the beauty of nature surrounded by winged wonders. Don’t forget to pack your binoculars and camera, as you’ll want to capture all the breathtaking moments!
