Welcome to Mattupetty Dam, the perfect spot for all you adventure enthusiasts out there!

Located in the Munar hills near the Anamudi peak, this strong gravity dam was constructed for power generation and water conservation, and is now an important source of energy in Munnar.

The green valleys and pleasant ambiance surrounding the dam make for a captivating site. And the most beautiful part? The reflection of the tea gardens into the water! It’s a visual treat that’ll take your breath away.

And if you want to become a part of this beauty, you can venture out into the waters on a boat. Boating is a pleasant activity, especially as you slide past the hills in the background. And don’t worry about getting bored, because speed boating, paddle boats, rowboats, and even motor boats are organized here by the Tourism Promotion Council of the district of Idukki.

Now, let’s talk about the cost. For 1 to 5 people, it’s INR 500 for speed boating for 15 minutes and INR 300 for ordinary boating of 15 minutes. Trust us, it’s worth every penny.

The perfect time to visit the dam is between August and May when the climate is pleasant and delightful. We’d avoid visiting during the rainy season in June and July though, because it can be tough to enjoy the place. But hey, if you’re a daredevil and love a good challenge, go ahead and try it out!

Oh, and did we mention that you might even spot some elephants by the dam? That’s right, it’s their favorite spot too to drink water. Just don’t get close to the elephants, okay?

And if you’re looking for a good trekking adventure, the Shola forests are the perfect place to go. You can also sit back and enjoy the peaceful surroundings while boating in the dam. It’s a perfect relaxation place for all nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts.

But wait, there’s more! Madupetty is also called the ‘Cattle Village’ after its high yielding cattle. You can see them grazing on the meadows and hills, and they’re a delight to watch in the farms which have hundreds of them.

And if that’s not enough, Mattupetty is a great place for camping and trekking. There are numerous routes through dense woods and the hill that form the relief features of this region. So, what are you waiting for? Pack your bags and head to Mattupetty Dam, the Switzerland of Kerala!
