Kalika Mata Temple is in Chittorgarh Fort! This temple has been around since the 8th century, and it has gone through quite the transformation. It started as a sun temple, but now it is a shrine dedicated to Kalika, an incarnation of Goddess Durga.
As you step into the temple, you can’t help but admire the incredible architecture. The intricate carvings and embellishments that decorate the temple’s walls show the hard work and dedication of the builders. Even though parts of it are in ruins now, the temple’s beauty still shines through.
But that’s not all – this temple is also one of the most important pilgrimage attractions in Chittorgarh. People from far and wide come to pay homage to Goddess Kali, an aspect of Goddess Bhadrakali. In fact, the temple is the clan goddess of Panwar (Mori Panwar) clan, the descendants of Chitrangna Mori, who built Chittorgarh. So, not only will you get to witness incredible architecture, but you’ll also get a glimpse into the rich history and culture of the region.
And while you’re here, make sure to visit the temple dedicated to Lord Shiva called Jogeshwar Mahadev. It’s in the same complex and just as impressive!
The temple is open from 9:30 am to 6:30 pm, so make sure to plan accordingly. And don’t worry about the price – you only need to pay the entry price for the fort. The temple is located in Chittorgarh Fort Village, Chittorgarh, Rajasthan 312001, so it’s easy to find.
