Cholamandal Artists’ Village, nestled in the scenic town of Injambakkam in Chennai.

Spread over a sprawling 10 acres, this place is an artist’s dream come true. It was the brainchild of the legendary artist KCS Paniker and established back in 1966. And let me tell you, it’s still as relevant and popular today as it was back then!

The gallery showcases the works of the famous “Madras Movement” artists, who have made a significant contribution to the contemporary Indian art scene. The village is one of the most successful self-supporting artists’ communities in Asia and is equipped with all the amenities an artist could need. And yes, I’m talking about the open-air theatre ‘Bharathi’ that’s used for holding discussions, conferences, and even theater performances.

K.C.S. Paniker, being a painter himself, gave contemporary Indian art a much-needed lifeline with this village. His vision has been continued by the many painters and sculptors who have since retired from Cholamandal. So, if you want to witness a legacy that has kept its proud father’s work perpetual, then you must visit this place.

So, what are you waiting for? If you want to take a break from the hustle and bustle of city life, head to Cholamandal Artists’ Village. Just take a drive through the heartland of the city, and amidst the greens, you’ll find this haven of design and visual art.
