Charlotte Lake is a beautiful spot is a must-visit in Mahteran in Maharashtra. Surrounded by dense forests, the lake is a hub for campers, picnickers and nature lovers.

Apart from being the primary source of drinking water for the locals, Charlotte Lake boasts of an archaic temple of Lord Shiva – Pisharnath Mahadev Mandir. This temple is unique in its own way with a tilted Shiva Linga smeared with vermillion. And if you’re an early bird or a night owl, then you’re in for a treat as bird watching during dawn and dusk is a popular activity here.

But getting to Charlotte Lake can be an adventure in itself. Remember, no buses or cars are allowed in Matheran, so be prepared to trek, ride a horse or take a man-pulled rickshaw. If you’re up for a bit of a challenge, take the two-kilometer walk from the Matheran railway station to the lake. Trust us, the journey will be worth it.

The lake is especially stunning during the monsoon season, with the shimmering water reflecting the mountain’s shadows like a disco ball. However, be warned that the rains can also spoil your bird watching or outdoor camping plans. So, plan your visit just after the monsoon, during October-November, for the perfect weather.
